Fly Stitch as dragon scales:
I'm reasonably happy with the dragon considering I haven't embroidered anything for a long time. Marked using a soap stone pencil. I didn't like the scales near the throat - the design would have been stronger with scales only running down the back - so I coloured them in with pastels. This exercise re-affirmed that I dislike stitching without a plan.
This doodle was mainly stitched free form:
As cartoony as this sample looks, it was an excellent exercise. I loved the geometric design in the lower left on paper, but I learned the fly stitch doesn't work well for such long stitches.
